Meet Maggie

My name is Maggie and I am a mum to four, 6th child of 12, and aunty to 21 nieces and nephews. I have over 20 years’ experience working with children aged 0 to 10. I have 15 years’ of nursing experience, specialising in women’s health, and 8 year’s experience working in midwifery care. I have worked in public and private hospitals, as well as, rural and remote.
In 2009 I gave birth to my eldest child, Oscar. I had a difficult birth and postnatal journey. I felt as though I was unsupported and undermined by majority of the midwives and nurses. I had little support from my family when I went home and felt so alone.
That challenging journey is what inspired me to become a midwife, so I could support mums in the way that I wasn’t. To let women know that there is support out there for them and that they never need to be alone.

Why I became a midwife
I believe in empowering women to trust and listen to their bodies in way that makes them feel seen, heard, safe and respected. I encourage them to take control of their birth by knowing their rights and becoming educated about the birth process so they are empowered to make choices that are best for their families.
I believe that emotional support after having a baby is just as important as when you are pregnant and giving birth. The transition to motherhood (and having subsequent babies) can be quite daunting and challenging.
I noticed a gap in antenatal care and postnatal support and needed to do something about it, and thus the Mumbi was created. I have offerings for the pregnancy and birth journey for women not only in Australia but worldwide. I offer postnatal support to women in the South West Sydney Region and surrounds.
